Our Mission

The North East Wind Symphony will provide the northeast San Antonio area with access to wind band music, while giving student and local musicians professional performance opportunities through complex music, fast-paced rehearsals, and quick concert cycles.

Since the Summer of 2021, founder Matthew Ramirez has put together a small community ensemble made of local musicians and students for a Fourth of July concert each year for the Steubing Ranch subdivision in the northeast of San Antonio. After its 4th anniversary performance in 2024, the group became The North East Wind Symphony in an effort to expand the group and perform more rigorous repertoire for the community.

The North East Wind Symphony, or NEWS, serves the northeast side of San Antonio, an area with not many outlets for community music. Hosted by the Madison Hills Baptist Church across from James Madison High School, the NEWS lends itself to being accessible for student musicians, music educators, and local musicians in the northeast side of the city, and gives these musicians an opportunity to become a part of a semi-professional ensemble while staying close to home, and giving the community the opportunity to listen to high-quality music in their own neighborhood.

The NEWS will begin its inaugural season in the Summer of 2025, and will continue to keep its performance seasons based in the Summer as to be accessible for student musicians and music educators. All performances are free of charge and open to the public.

The North East Wind Symphony is a registered 501C(3) non-profit, and all donations to our operations are tax-deductible. Please see our Donate page for information relating to donating, corporate sponsorships, and individual sponsorship packages as well as chair sponsorships.
